Chase's first hunting season
Chase's first hunting season
I'd like to share some pictures of my hunting dog's first season with me:
One of the few times I got him to stand still.
Chase's first wild bird point.
Getting ready to go to South Dakota.
This was home for a week.
The first day the weather was great.
Chase on point in a plum thicket.
Bad weather - good pheasant hunting.
Heading home.
Back home - hunting some pen-raised pheasants and chuckars.
I can never get him to pose with his birds - he's always after them.
We are really looking forward to next season.

Your "home for a week" looks a lot like lakeside cabins (#1) in Mobridge. Correct????

Great looking pictures. I had to go back and look at where you were from when I saw the citrus trees.

Yep, that was home. It was a decent place to stay and the price wasn't bad. The guy that runs Lakeside also has dogs and was very willing to help.
Re: Chase's first hunting season
Jim's a good guy, we've been there a few times. Those cabins can be a little small, but the price is right.
Were you after sharptails or pheasants?

Re: Chase's first hunting season
We were up there for the pheasants, but they had a great year for sharptails - so we ended up getting as many of them as we did pheasants.

I bet you can fit 6 grown men in half that cabin! Right Jeff!!

You should know, you were one of the 6. I'll never live down the mistake of renting cabin 2 when we really wanted to rent cabin 1 will I? That whole trip was a pain, but we still had fun!

Looks like you had a great first season. I give...what state is cabin 1 located in?
Re: Chase's first hunting season
Mobridge, SD.
Re: Chase's first hunting season
One more and I'm done. I didn't mean to hijack you thread but my dogs name is Chase also and it brought back some great memories. Here's a shot of my friends dog "Ben" (white dog) backing Chase on a covey of sharptails. We sure had fun "somewhere west of the river". Ben passed away last season and will be missed terribly. Those tow knew how to cover the ground together yet never get in each others way.

Great shots....looks like you had a good time!
Were you mainly on private or public land?

We hunted on private land. Our "host" gets us access.

Great pictures... I am working my first bird dog and I know what you mean about getting him to "pose" for the pics but what fun they are..
