West Texas Dove hunting

Post by westexasrepublic » Wed Sep 02, 2009 10:15 am

2009 Season has begun and the birds where flying. I drove out to my 2008 spot at a nearby lake, only to find the trail leading there was too overgrown to continue in my truck, Ill remember to take the Kingquad next time. However that wouldnt stop me from hunting, i just found a new spot for 09'. Ill post pics from yesterday, but I will continue throughout the Dove season to update with pics since Ill be out as much as possible. Big hunt with lots of pics to follow this weekends annual hunt at my friends ranch in Grape Creek, Tx. until then, this is a teaser shot from yesterday, limited out .(15 in Texas this year)

enjoy...

nice to see your pictures- nice to see you using your Britt- good looking Britt

used to do a lot of dove hunting- but alone- my Britt had the tendency to go get everyone's doves
neighbor I hunted with quite a bit has a good story to tell about that-
he was 75 yards away- had 6 doves under his lawn chair- my male would walk up- look at him- pick one up- bring it to me- then go back for the rest-

thats funny! my dog does the same thing. She will see the other person shoot go get it, and bring it to me. Me and my hunting partners got a joke that I can get my limit and not even shoot. good stuff, cant wait till we go out this weekend.

well your right about one thing, it is green. and to be honest that pic was taken here in San Angelo, which is like the Oasis of West Texas, and even more so since I was 20 yards from the lake that day. But the weekends here, and its gonna be good. Got my limit again yesterday, and even better than that....I found this. They are so rare now days. I feel like I spotted a whooping crane.

no water arround here- just local doves- so instead of unloading on them I shoot a few shots every few days
crazy hoot owl flew close this am- has me wondering about the pups

the thought is to mabye make a small pond in the yard- could be good for the Britt's and the birds
