A little walk in snow....

Post by Elkhunter » Mon Jan 04, 2010 6:26 pm

Went out to do a little hunting on the local put and shoot, we were gonna go hit the wily chukar hills but the snow looked a little deep... Friend has a young britt that he has been working with, she is coming along well.

Nice pics Elkhunter. Is that in Utah? Looks like a place we hunted last Winter...

Yes it is, its called Wasatch Wing and Clay. My friend has a credit out there for some birds so we thought we would give it a go. How was the chukar hunting in NV this year?

It was so so, didn't get out at the beginning of the season at all because we were in Utah hunting elk as well, and the few times we've been out since have been alright. Sometimes we see them sometimes we don't. There's been quite a bit of snow the last few weeks. Going to try for this weekend and see how it goes.

SierraMtn, Have you hunted up in the Orvada area recently? When I worked down there in Winnemucca that whole range west of town burned one day in the late 1990's and I wonder if the profered vegetation is coming back yet or is it just cheat and mustard?

We drew out for 17 and hunted around strawberry. There were 4 of us, 2 were successful, 2 were not, we all had cow tags. It was my first big game hunt and it sure was a lot of fun however, I was not one who was successful. Maybe next time.

I haven't hunted up near Orovada recently but I know the range west of Winnemucca never really came back. There was another fire there a couple years ago as well. I do know a lot of people that go up to the Winnemucca area who have been fairly successful this year, but we haven't made it that far, we've done pretty well closer to home.
