Early Season Ducks???

Post by labman21 » Sun Aug 22, 2010 3:10 pm

All of my duck hunting experiences have taken place in the late season. This is due to no success with deer and elk season. This year I am planning to do alot more hunting in the earlier part of the season. These birds are probably a whole different animal at this time of year and I want to know your guys' early season tactics. Just to inform you I'm a big fan of decoying.

Let me kno what you guys think. Thanks

Early season is fun, but can be scattered. Not sure about MT, but in the early season there is more food, so routes to food can be harder to pin down. But you mostly will find ducks in all waters. Here in Maine the low water this year allowed the rice to come up strong, so I will be focusing on those areas, but if the birds get to much pressure they will move to another food source for a while. But there will always be new ducks coming in.

Have fun, just thrown those dekes down and have some fun.Image
The best part of training is seeing the light come on in your little prot'eg'e.
