Been having lots of luck so far! Hunting all private ground and wild birds, but have managed to take a bunch of roosters in the opening 2 weeks!

Crop has been out in most of the area where I live for several weeks. Many farmers almost done with their fall tillage. This is one of the earliest harvests I can remember. The problem that I have run into this year is the dry scenting conditions. We have not had rain for ever. Lots of dust!!! It sounds like your timing is good. There should be some precipitation this weekend. Sounds like a little snow, but I don't think it will be cold enough to stick. I have had good luck hunting by myself or with a small group. Bigger groups will have a hard time filling everyone's limits. Numbers are down, but maybe not as bad as some have forecast.

Yep, he works full time, kids are in college. I run his grain wagon at times. Should be all done by Sunday.
Some dont get it out as fast as others. All the fields around my place are done.

Where in Audobon? That county has no public land tho.

Some good ground in guthrie tho. I have some private land to hunt in cass county, farms for birds, lots of pheasants on his 360 acres.

We are around the exira area. All our land or friends.

Make sense on the corn, I thought you were talking about the whole area, got me scared!

Getting excited, we leave at 5:30 tomorrow morning. Should be hunting by noon!

I think the only reason everybody had a better opener this year versus last year is the crops were mostly all out versus last year there was alote of them still in. I'm not saying there is less or more birds out there this year they were just easier to find. Just my opinion.

3 birds, 2.5 days, 4 guys, and 1.5 dogs (my pup was just having fun). Friday and Saturday were wet and nasty. All 3 days the birds were running on us. Dog would come on point, I would go to flush and it would take off running. Dog would break point and bird would flush 50 yards in front of us. Not sure if it was the weather or my dog but it was frustrating. She was tracking birds for hundreds of yards and I could not figure out all the false points. Still only saw about 15 roosters.

We counted over 35 deer. We "flushed" over 10. Cant believe how many we saw. Way to many deer.

We still had a great time at the farm, the whiskey was flowing and we were talking about how it used to be.

Well how many Red tail Hawks did you see? I heard from a guy I work with coon pelts are going up to around $25 ea. so hopefully there will be more interest in taking out some predators this year. Looks like you at least had fun.

We didnt count them on the way up due to the rain. I will tell you I had at least 10 in gun range on Sunday when it cleared up.

25 is a good price, thats a price from when I was trapping as a kid. Might push some people back into it!

Thats what its all about. Getting together with family and/or buddies, hunting a bit, watching the dogs work, maybe shoot a few birds and then when the day is done reminiscing over a few cocktails. Looks like it was still good fun!
