Wyatts New Years Pa grouse hunting weekend

I got to run Wyatt (20 months old) on a few consecutive days on grouse. What fun it was! The first day there where no birds finds but then again it was not the best conditions. The second run we had two finds with one being a double and if Wyatt could talk with his looks I think he pretty much wanted to know why the birds flew away with so little pressure. My response would be welcome to grouse hunting!!!
The next run was precious! Young Wyatt ran with such confidence and he just seemed to want to please me so much! within an hour we had three flushes and 2 in the bag
(Pa daily limit).
Wyatt maintained his Master level work ( he finished his Master hunter a month ago) all weekend, steady to wing, shot and fall and retrieved to hand every time!! even the bird th he didn't see drop and had no mark! I'm not sure who was happier me or Wyatt! I'm very proud of the young man and look forward to running him again soon!
Weekend totals running Wyatt and Dollar separately where;
12 flushes of 16 birds in a total of about 8 hours! (many of which were not shot at) Three grouse in the bag and alot of good memories and smiles!
Big thanks to Bruce Shaffer Almost heaven kennels for all of Wyatts training!! Well done!!

Good job Wyatt and Jon!!! All Master level work by Wyatt? Stop to Flush and Steady to Fall, Retrieve to Hand? Are these his 1st Grouse/Wild Birds coming off the Master Testing? Think I'd be considering a really nice mount for the wall!

Congrats: Sounds like you have a great dog there, and a great couple days.. Definately need to mount the first properly handled bird.

1Doggie,
Give Wyatt a big pat on the head for me, looks like you had a great time in the Pa Grouse woods, with a well trained dog. Glad your trainer did a nice job with your dog
he looks great. Real nice birds by the way. If you get up to Potter/Tioga drop in, would like to meet you and see Wyatt. Hay you got a serious dog, now you got to get rid of that stack BBL gun and pick up a bird gun that equals the dog. Welcome to Pa Grouse hunting, hope you return many times in the future.

Ryman Gun Dog,
What is the little double you have in the first picture?

rolawson,
The Little double in the 1st picture is a Special order preproduction 16 Guage, 00 L.C. Smith. with 26" BBls & DT. The gun is a two BBl set with two different custom
fore-stocks and one of my favorite Grouse guns. The more serious double gun collectors get on me all the time for the white spacer on the butt Stock, I do have the original black one also.
