South La. Woodcock

The woodcock hunting is great for anyone that has never tried Louisiana woodcock hunting you have no idea what your are missing. Especially if you have a puppy or young dog.
This was all of about one and half hours with many no shots. Moved 19 birds.

I took me a few to locate the birds in the pictures....lol Nice shot.

We had a banner season here in Michigan. I have never in my life seen so many birds the first month of the season. It was just like hitting a flight everytime we went out.

I hunt upstate Ny in Oct for grouse and woodcock (Live there work here) and the flight was great but the number of birds this year down here is unreal.
YEp I couldnt find a light colored tree to put the birds on.

would love to come up that way and hunt one day if you ever get tired of the cold fly south.

Frank, I never get tired of the cold, but hate the heat. You are welcome to come to Michigan and hunt. Between Sept 15th and November 15th, I only work 4 days. I take the whole month of October off and I am in Northern Michigan for almost 2 straight months bird hunting. It sucks to have to save up vacation all year, but it is worth it when fall arrives!

I'm just wondering why my wife willingly lets me leave for that long..... Something must be keeping her happy at home! :)

Took me a second to find the birds on the log too. When I first looked at it I was wondering how you got the gun to balance like that. :P

Sounds like you had a good time. Good stuff, woodcock are a blast to hunt. The sound of pellets zinging threw tree branches fills my head just looking at your pic.

Depends what I am hunting. To tell you the truth except for quail Sherburne has everything you need I use to live there :D :D and the best woodcock hunting isnt by the landing strip (its good there very good) but try some of the pipe lines right when you get off I-10 hit the bottoms with ridges full of birds. Thistlewaite is full of birds as well but it is also full of snakes!

Woodcock The Basin and around Henderson (the house) hardly been in the basin this year no need. About to go chase a few before the AFC game. I also hunt them in Upstate NY when the flights come thru its really nice and you can get some grouse too.
Ducks The Basin in and just out of it sometimes near Kaplin.
Quail A few old select places that can still hold em actually kinda close to the house (havent chased them yet).
I try to keep 2 Johnny houses with about 50-100 for training in the summer.

Grouse Upstate NY
Deer Upstate NY

Where you drop your dog and what you hunt behind?

All the hunting I do is pen raised. Got access to a place in Eunice and the same at Angola. Gonna explore Sherburne this week, about out of time. Looking to find something next year in Texas or Kansas. Making a trip end of Feb to Kansas to look around. I got a 2 1/2 yr old GSP. Kinda looks like yours. First full yr of hunting. thanks for the info and any suggestions is appreciated.
