Vizsla Breeder info needed
Vizsla Breeder info needed
Well season's out here in ID and it's been fun, there were good numbers of birds and the weather cooperated most of the time. Now it's time to get fat again.
Need some help from you guys. My hntg partner lost a nice female Vizsla due to medical issues two yrs ago, then bought a fantastic natural little setter that ended up at two yrs old with severe hip diplashia. His Vet told him he didn't see how she was walking let alone hntg in this kind of terrain.
He wants to go with another Vizsla this go around and then another setter in a couple of yrs. He's been looking at On Point Kennels in Canada, but he wants some more options for other breeders. It appears most of the breeders are catering to a non-hntg market so it seems his supply of testimonials and references are limited in the hardcore hntg realm. If you know anything about OnPoint or any others I'd greatly appreciate the info.
Thanks

Don't know if he has any litters on the ground right now but check out firestorm bird dogs.. he specializes in vizslas. Warren knows his red dogs and has a lot of them on his string.
Re: Vizsla Breeder info needed
Try http://www.buschvizslas.com. They have dual dogs for the most part and definitely have hunting dogs. They have a fantastic litter coming up too.

Try http://www.midnightrunvizslas.com or http://www.buschvizslas.com I got my last V from them & he's a hunter. My dogs father, Cisco, is co owned by both.
Re: Vizsla Breeder info needed
Mike Lundy, Brian Fidler, Dustin Ochs, Ray Cooper, Rob Tomczak (Shiloh Kennels)
That's where I would start.

Re: Vizsla Breeder info needed
I have no experience with Firestorm so can't comment, but I've seen dogs from all of the other mentioned names and they are all good places to go for what you're looking for.
We're planning a litter that will hopefully be on the ground by summertime, right now we're just waiting for the girl to go into season, which should be within a month or so. That breeding is between our Buffy and a nice-running DC in Georgia named Barben's Absolut Martini.
My distance from you might be prohibitive, though, and like I said, the already mentioned names are all good.

Give Rob a call at Shiloh Kennels. If he doesn't have what you're looking for he may be able to point you in the right direction.

Mike Lundy or Dustin in KS - but be prepared for field trial dogs, ie. a dog that ranges way out there. If you want a closer working companion dog, try Everedi Kennels in Missouri. Small breeder - with only a litter a year. I think she's going to have a nice litter this spring/summer. Dual champion dogs - with Hunt Test titles, some Field Trial titles and some bench titles. Mine came from there - and he's the best dog I've ever owned. He's also the most trainable pet I've ever had in my life. Lin Kozlowski is the name of the trainer/owner.
Whoever you go to, do your research, check for health clearances and see how many litters they put out a year. Bigger is not necessarily better.

I'm a brit person that runs hunt tests for the Nebraska Brittany Club. I've watched Lin Kozlowski run her vizslas in our tests. They handle real well, find birds, back, retrieve, and get ALOT of orange ribbons. They are very good hunting dogs.RoostersMom wrote:Mike Lundy or Dustin in KS - but be prepared for field trial dogs, ie. a dog that ranges way out there. You might want to give Josh McPherson a call. He is in Eagle Mtn Utah.
He has some of the best Vizslas in the country.

I second the Bill Gibbons reference. That man probably knows hunting V-dogs better than anybody.

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!
Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.

Good looking pups buy Not sure how you are coming up with the best field breeding, would you explain?ezzy333 wrote:Not only gorgeous but some of the best field breeding in the country.

There are some decent dogs in the background but would need to see the parents in the field to judge the best field breeding in the country. There are plenty of great Vizslas that are being campaigned right now.
Good luck on finding your pup, there are plenty of good recommendations mentioned above and plenty of people that would be glad to answer questions for you.

In doing research on any litter, the following websites are most helpful.
(1) www.offa.org (for health screens completed on the parents); and,
(2) http://www.remekvizslas.net/dogSearch.php4
(for a younger sire or dam, you can search and see what the parents of the litter have done in AKC field trials in the last few years).
