If going to NY there is a lot of places & on the way to the Adirondack's there is a ton of good land. Tug hill is supposed to be good, Pharsallia WMA is supposed to be good. I hunt and live in the leather stocking region which if your coming from PA you could pass through some great areas like South hill in Schenevus , Partidge run just below Albany. You might check NYSDEC website as they list a lot of WMA's .
Good Luck !

Maine is the best we've found so far. PA not bad, NY tougher unless you have good intel, we have not given VT and NH a fair shake yet....

There is a ton of good cover in NY much closer and arguably better than the 'dacks. Send me a pm if you'd like.

I have heard and read on the NYS DEC site that there is some state land managed for grouse. I have heard that there are even trials in NY with wild birds only. I live in NY and have never hunted grouse here but I think I will try it this year. Has anybody hunted in NY south of Albany and a little west, I am on Long Island and I am hoping to hunt within a reasonable drive from my house.

That's where I am located. Lot's of good land and managed for grouse land. I have listed a couple in previous thread. Scroll back a couple.

How do they manage for grouse. I thought logging was helpful. Are they planting food.

I am also from long island "Huntington". I did a couple of hunts up at partridge run last year without any success. I think once the season starts the birds get either hit or smart. This year I am going to try again hopefully ill be able to get up there in the first week or two. They also have stocked pheasant there but do not announce the days they stock.
