NY Grouse hunt - Pics
Hunted through some nice cover today. Sadly, the woodcock had moved out but Ruff was still in his usual haunts. Moved a dozen birds in a half days effort, can't complain.
A really nice bottom that was just bursting at the seams with apples, bumper crop this year:
Cedar handled well today, bit rangey at times and bumped a few birds. Still sorting things out with ruff. He's a long way from finished and may never be, he only retrieves cripples but for a two year old dog he finds birds and puts meat on the table.
My buddy Joe with a fine bird taken over Cedar's point, smile says it all.
Sleepy setter with morning bag

Is that upstate and where?
I pity the man that has never been loved by a dog!

I have been wanting to go upstate NY but been afraid of deer hunters. Have they been a problem for you out there or are you on private land.

Do all my upland hunting on public land, never had a problem with deer hunters, 100's of thousands of acres to spread out on up here. At times you have to bounce between northern and southern zone seasons accordingly but I wouldn't let it deter you from grouse hunting at all.
