pheasant hunting around Artas SD

What is the hunting looking like this year. Headed up Friday.

I don't hunt up that way so I am not sure what to tell you about the hunting. You may want to find the SD Game Fish And Parks website and look for the pheasant forecast. I know that most of SD is down significantly from last year but I am just not sure about that area specifically.
You will also want to check the weather forecast. I know that that area is slated for about 6 inches of snow on Saturday.

What part of SD is that in?

Just east of river in far north part.

I was hunting north of there, in ND, the last week of October. Bird numbers are down compared to last year. But we go into birds pretty much every spot we hunted. Previous years we could move birds from just about any decent looking piece of cover. This year we focused on good cover adjacent to good food. The corn was just coming off when we were there, so we found the bestnumbers of birds in cover adjacent to picked beans.

The poor pheasant forecasts have had one positive effect. A lot of hunters stayed home this year. Last year we saw multiple groups of hunters in the fields every day. This year we saw maybe a half dozen other groups of hunters, and all on the weekend.
