Knowledge of Texas Wild Bird Hunting?

Post by Meatballs » Thu Dec 08, 2011 7:40 pm

I live in Kentucky. Very limited grouse and quail hunting. I have been offered a job in San Antonio Texas. Does anyone out there have any knowledge of wild bird hunting in and around Central Texas?

It is largely private. Most hunters get into a lease.

Birds have been poor the last couple of years, but I have had 30+ covey days in West Texas. It can be amazing...

The Texas wild bird population fluctuates widely with population rises when rainfall is timely and plentiful. The past couple of years have been absolutely brutal and wildlife of all varieties has suffered in Texas. Typically one would expect to find better quail hunting a couple of hours south of San Antonio rather than north. A typical year would probably feel bountiful as opposed to the last few.
