Cool photo of Shooting a Quail

Post by hi-tailyn » Tue Jan 10, 2012 7:52 pm

Did a family hunt last week, and took photos of my sons shooting and dog work.

Here is one that shows the shot just inches behind quail and wad a few more inches behind the shot.

I thought it was pretty cool getting bird, shot, wad, gunner, and dog in one photo.

Nice dog! That bird goes down, that dog has it marked!
I pity the man that has never been loved by a dog!

Great Pic. Bet the son had a great day with dad.
How is that dog standing the point on its front feet only?
The best part of training is seeing the light come on in your little prot'eg'e.

The dog "Katara" is my one yr old. She breaks at the flush. She was in hot pursuit to fetch that bird back to him. She lives to retrieve.

Forgot to take the end of the day photo with the two sons and dogs with their batch of birds. :? Will just haft to do it again. I don't think they will mind.

Have concluded that it has been better using pen raised quail to get them used to shooting over the dogs. I know it took me a few years to get used to the Wild bird FLUSH and then birds are everywhere. Little scary with young ones with wild birds going every direction. Plus this gives them confidence in what they are doing. Tried to make it a positive trip.

Not like our KS Youth Hunt trip with what we saw of roosters flying out of range and moving way faster then they could get a bead on one. No birds, but they got to shoot a lot.
