High Vel 20 gauge #8 shell options?

Post by Billinsd » Wed Jan 11, 2012 12:12 pm

The best I found were these Fiocchi 20 gauge, 1 1/4 ounce, 1220 fps, 3 inch shells for about $11 a box at midway http://www.midwayusa.com/product/713814 ... -box-of-25

Fiocchi 203HV8

Seems like great performance out of a 20 gauges, assuming they pattern well of course.

What else is out there in a 3 inch or 2 3/4 inch 20 gauge shell with that velocity and 1 1/4 or 1 1/8 ounce of #8s?

Thanks
Bill

Pardon my asking, but what in the heck are you shooting with those? Seems like too big a load for that light a shot size!

Must be #6 not #8. Only other loads I've seen like that would be Prarie Storms or maybe Kent.

Just think of how good a skeet gun he'd havd with 1 1/4 oz of #9's.

I AGREE.waste of money.stay with 7/8 oz ,2=1/2 drams .i put 164 pellets in 30 inch circle at 35 yds.anything past that let bird go.
if hunting ducks, go to 12 ga .
it only takes a pellet to kill most birds.

save your money. go to wal-mart and buy the FEDERAL TARGET LOADS for $4.77 cents or winchester game loads for $5.47 cents .
both patterned great out of my AL48 20ga.

Velocity is overrated with lead.
Not sure when 20-1 1/4-8s would be advised????

The short mag 20 in larger shot is often a very nice load but I think the 20 is best with 1 ounce for gamebirds.... but the standard clay load will swat a lot of stuff well enough.
Hard to find factory 7/8 of shot larger than 7 1/2s tho...regardless of whether such a load would indeed work, which it likely would when pointed correctly.
Basic consideration is critter size....and gun weight to a degree.
