Some of the best duck hunting you will find anywhere and the best woodcock hunting in North America in a good cold winter.

Re: Hunting in Louisiana
Well....Its official, I will be relocating to Louisiana by May 2nd.....I could really use any advice that anyone has about bird hunting in that area.
I have a 9 month old tri colored english setter, and I really dont want to sell him, and I was just wondering if it would be worth it to keep him or not??????????

I don't know about you but my dog is worth more to me as a friend and companion than just a hunting tool.

I dont know how you took the qoute but that is not how I meant it.DogNewbie wrote:I don't know about you but my dog is worth more to me as a friend and companion than just a hunting tool.
I care deeply for him, and he will always have a special place in my heart, but I care enough about him to know that he is at his best and is happiest when he is doing what he loves to do which is hunting. I would rather deal with the heartbreak of giving him away to someone that can give him that, rather than just keep him inside or couped up all the time. I would rather see him hunt and enjoy his life.
Your comment deeply offends me, and maybe next time you should think about what you say to someone and get to know them before you say it.

Re: Hunting in Louisiana
What part of the state you moving to?
If the dog is fair can keep you in woodcock from mid december till end of January 45 day season.
Ducks run from early september Teal thru end of January.
There are some quail but few and you will have to work.

The robertsons had a good beaver hunt on tonights episode of DUCK DYNASTY. I like their style they hunt frogs, squirrels, beavers, ducks and who knows what else. Hunting is hunting regardless of the species. I did a whole lotta beaver hunting before i got married.

We do that all the time caught 127 frogs the other night. Beavers just get kilt. Squirrel season starts in two weeks we have a spring season.
Louisiana is not called the Sportsman's Paradise for nothing.
Here is an interesting fact that most don't know.
Phil Robertson - Patriarch of the family, and the one who started it all. Believe or not, he was the first string quarterback for Louisana Tech University, ahead of football star Terry Bradshaw. They both were drafted into the NFL, but Phil turned down the opportunity to play professional football because it would interfere with duck hunting season that is dedicated!!
HAVE A GREAT DAY!!

Definitely keep your dog. Shoot me a PM and I'll give you some info. Woodcock is our staple upland bird, but there are some quail. There is a big WMA near you that is managed for quail. but you will have to work hard for them.

Re: Hunting in Louisiana
Cajun country the south central La. Is fantastic
FYI woodcock runs from Mid December to end of Janurary.
Woodcock Hunting on Public Lands
Interested in hunting woodcock in Louisiana? There is ample woodcock hunting opportunity on public land in Louisiana. Wildlife Management Areas (WMA), Kisatchie National Forest, National Wildlife Refuges, and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers land offer woodcock hunting opportunity. Woodcock distribution varies from year to year depending on soil moisture and temperature. In most years, land in the Mississippi and Atchafalaya River floodplains offers the best woodcock hunting. Some of these properties include Sherburne WMA, Three Rivers WMA, Indian Bayou Area (USACOE), and Dewey Wills WMA. However, hunters should not overlook the upland areas which can offer very good hunting as well. Some of these include the Kisatchie National Forest, Clear Creek WMA, Bodcau WMA, and Sandy Hollow WMA. See http://www.wlf.louisiana.gov/wma for WMA descriptions and locations.
Quail
Novemeber 17th to Feb 28 if you shoot a limit shame on you. Limit is 10 and I don't know a place in the state that can take that kinda beating on coveys.
Doves
Fort Polk WMA, Vernon Parish
Holly Springs food plot – 40 acres, planted in brown-top millet
U.S. Forest Service dove field – 50 acres, planted in brown-top millet
Ducks heck we got a new zone this year.
Hard to beat some of the duck hunting.
