Hey guys, iv hunted in Illinois for a while now and have only flushed 1 woodcock while hunting. my question is, is there any areas in the state that tend to hold a larger population than others? we always travel to northern Wisconsin for grouse and woodcock and it would be nice if i didnt have to travel 6+ hours to hunt the buggers. \
Thanks

Early successional, moist ground, open understory....and where you find them.
RGS used to post a migration map.
There is a revamped Woodcock Limited organization in the initial throes of a beginning.

I live in Sullivan IN about 5miles off the IL border and we see 2 flights of woodcock a year when they come through. Some years are a big flight and youu see em for a week or 2 sometimes you see em for a day or 2.

A limit on the strap is nice, but the kill has nothing to do with tradition.
