Last season, I went pheasant hunting with my father-in-law behind his Pudelpointer @ Green River, Il.
Not alot of birds that day, but I'll never forget mine!
My fil had already bagged a rooster that practically jumped down the barrel of his gun, & his pp flushed another way out of range, I made note of his landing (on top of a very overgrown hill). We made our way tyo where I thought the bird might be, tromping through some rough brush, when suddenly, I saw my bird right in between us! I had to chase him a bit to get him up, & I dropped him with my 20ga. He hit the ground running! The dog lit after the bird, & me in my excitement lit after the dog!
I don't know if any of you know the song "1814" about fighting the british in New Orleans... "ran through the briars, & ran through the brambles, ran through the places where the rabbits couldn't go!"
The dog caught the bird, I pulled a muscle in my leg, & the bird is now mounted on my wall!
Needless to say, it was only my second pheasant hunt!
Even more, it WILL NOT me my last!!
