There are quite a few nice vizlas and wiems around here. Lots of shorthairs too. They all do well in the heat, but for my money in the desert nothing touches one of these!

Fast Running quail, lots of cactus, many miles in the dry heat. I won't get into breeds or bloodline discussions anymore. But the dog needs to be fast, tough, and smart as well. But foremost with DRIVE!!!!

Sounds like you're describing a Pointer.gotpointers wrote:Fast Running quail, lots of cactus, many miles in the dry heat. I won't get into breeds or bloodline discussions anymore. But the dog needs to be fast, tough, and smart as well. But foremost with DRIVE!!!!
My Vizsla does o.k. back home in NM, but my Pointer does better.

I didn't realize we had so many nice looking dogs here in the land of enchantment! Now all we need is some quail.

Re: Dogs for New Mexico.
Its going to be a good year, the kids were able to get two unit 13 cow elk tags today in the leftover youth encouragement hunts. My 15 year old also drew a leftover archery mule deer hunt in 18 my old quail area. The land i have leased is also loaded with the most quail in years.RoostersMom wrote:Sounds like you're describing a Pointer.gotpointers wrote:Fast Running quail, lots of cactus, many miles in the dry heat. I will pay a good amount of your expenses and take you to my hunting spots. if you can make it out and stop on the way for the Missouri dogs.
I think my new little tri color setter girls are going to go on quite a few hunting trips this year also.
Re: Dogs for New Mexico.

Thanks for the input. The pedigrees on your dogs are nice! They seem like the big running horseback trial kind, interesting you went with a Wrangler pup with more of a (supposedly) shorter run , walking trial bloodline? I hope he turns out good.

As far as lines I like to buy and try them all. I recently bought a bunch of the grouse woods line pointers and setters. I believe a good dog will adapt to whatever it takes to get into birds and please the owner. Running with a crackling tail and pointing with style is icing on the cake.dead mike wrote:Thanks for the input. The pedigrees on your dogs are nice! I personally havent seen phantoms prairie max run. I was looking at some braces and he is running with the best of the best. Your phantom dog must really have some wheels.
I cant seem to see your kennel link. Would like to see some of your dogs.
