Looking for a remote cabin in Maine, take my son grouse hunt

Grouse hunting.

I have a 14 year-old son and a 9 year-old son who want to go on a hunting trip this year. My 14 year-old has never shot a grouse, I'd like to see him get a few this year. I thought that a remote cabin in Maine would be perfect. I could use some "wind down" time myself.

Does anyone have any information on cabins for rent in Northern Maine. I don't really need a guide just plenty of woods and logging roads not to mention peace and quiet(Notice I have mentioned my wife going on this trip?)

I would recommend going to the Bird Dogs Afield website birddogsafield.com and watch the video episodes for Maine Grouse hunting. There are several over the 3 seasons of episodes. It will give you some first hand info on lodges. Guides I believe are optional and you can hunt just about everywhere up north since most is paper company land that allows open access and hunting. Great grouse hunting.

I do not know about Maine, but out west there are all kinds of forest service cabins. Check out recreation.gov, to see if there are any up that way.

To find lodging (and guide services) see the Guides and Camping/Lodging links from the Maine DIFW website: http://www.maine.gov/ifw/links.htm
especially look at: Maine Campground Owners Association (campgrounds and cabin rentals) http://www.campmaine.com/home.php
Maine Professional Guides Association (searchable database): http://www.maineguides.org/
Note that 2 advertisers in the RGS spring 2012 magazine who operate in Maine are Foggy Mountain Guide Service (http://www.mainegrouse.com) and Allagash Guide Service (http://www.allagashguideservice.com). Allagash is "up north".
North Maine Woods Association (controls road access to 3.5 million acres in northern ME) http://www.northmainewoods.org/
Good luck
