Re: Quail Article
There was an article in the latest Outdoor Life that talked about the large decline of quail in west Texas where habitat changes weren't as great. They talked about an eye parasite. Do any of you have any further info on that. It seems disease has been overlooked to a large extent as a direct and indirect cause of declines, either killing the birds outright, weakening them so they are easier prey or messing up breeding and nesting success. I know here in the SW section of Idaho sage grouse took a big hit due to West Nile. With the outbreak of West Nile in Texas that might be a factor. Death due to disease is hard to detect in small game populations due to the consumption of victims by preators and scavengers a short time after death.
