I recently hunted public land in southeast South Dakota. My wife went with me for the second time. She doesn't hunt, but does all the driving and spots birds. We took a pointer and 2 setters and had a big time. I believe the bird numbers were down by about 50% from last year, but still averaged about 2 roosters a day. Here are a few pictures from our trip:
How do you prepare wild Pheasant for the table? I shot some pen raised Pheasant years ago and they were fairly tough, but my cooking skills are horrible at best. I've always wondered this about wild Pheasant. With grouse I usually make a chiken and biscuit type dish and it good stuff.
We have a local restaurant that grills and smokes the birds for me. By the time I get home, I only have 2 or 3 for myself. They are good for hunting favors and such.
