GoPro Hunting Videos
Does anyone use a gopro for filming their hunts? I just got a hero3 and am trying to get it set up well before hunting this Saturday. Any tips you have on getting the best video let me know. I have the head mount and am thinking about making a mount for my shotgun too.

Re: GoPro Hunting Videos
Go to a narrow field of view so the birds don't seem so far out there.
Re: GoPro Hunting Videos
That is correct, a narrow field of view let's you seethe dogs and birds better.yetinme wrote:Go to a narrow field of view so the birds don't seem so far out there.

Use the chest mount if you can....too much movement with the head mount.

Re: GoPro Hunting Videos
I have a bunch of waterfowl hunting videos on YouTube if your looking to film waterfowl hunting. There's a link in my signature to my YouTube channel. I also use iMovie but am upgrading to Final Cut Pro X this year.

Here are some examples of videos I took this season. These were taken with a head mounted Hero 2 and edited with Windows Live Movie Maker.

Re: GoPro Hunting Videos
I recorded most of our grouse and woodcock season with a gopro 2. One suggestion, I would get an external mic. After a season of video it's obvious the external mic is the way to go. Better sound quality and you don't have the loud bang when twigs hit the camera cover. I like the camera on the head since I captured some quick action that I would not have gotten if it was on my chest. If I can post some video I got I will, I got a very cool over head shot on a ruff grouse.
Make sure you have a newer processor in your computer or you r going to have issues processing the large files. I am barely limping by.

Thought of another tip. To capture the action it's best to be recording all the time. However, to speed up editing, after an event happens like a point, shot, retrieve, I will give a thumbs up in front of the camera and then turn it off, then back on again when ready to begin recording. If I want to stop recording like if back at truck or stopped for water break I wave my hand back and forth in front of camera and then turn off.
Why u ask? Well when it comes to editing go Right to the end of each clip, if I am waving I know it's junk and delete, if I have thumbs up I know I have something right at the end I wanted to keep. This allows me to get what I want without having to watch everything!!!!
Huge time saver.
We captured some pretty funny conversations we had in the field, we laughed pretty hard, I knew I wanted to keep that so after all the laughing was done I thumbs up and stopped.
Give it a try
