Once a Year Trek to Da U.P.

Rudi and I headed up to my buddies cabin Mon Oct 2.

The cabin isnt a 5 star motel, but we dont suffer much.

Outstanding scenery, and the colors were just a little past peak in most places, others pretty yet.

Rudi was doing a pretty good job, infact she retrieved every bird shot.

The "breaks" (ferns and under story plants) were all frosted and dry, causing bleeding tongue on the dog several times. When its hot and they run thru the dry breaks, its bloody tongue time. Quite a mess to deal with. In addition, my partners and I tried to hunt about 5 hours a day to keep the dog fresh for most of a week. The weekend was to be in the 70's and we decided to forego hunting a tired dog in the heat.
It also appeared that woodcock had staged to a different area or migrated South as the numbers in our area were somewhat lower than last year. Only two grouse seen and one bagged for 5 days hunting.
Using a small P&S camera first and shooting birds secondary, its a hoot to get a dog pic and have something to remember the hunt by.
Only two seasons, bird season and getting ready for bird season
