Spinning Wing decoys

Post by Legband » Sat Aug 24, 2013 8:58 pm

With Dove seasons quickly approaching I was wondering , if surveyed what would most wing shooters say about mojo doves and the like? I know where I stand on the subject! what do you think?

Early in the season it seem to work well, to bring the young dumb ones in. Later in the season on heavily hunted birds, I think it actually hurts you.

I have used one for 3 or 4 seasons I would guess. Think you will like the way it works early.

They are the best thing on earth the first part of the season.
I have English Pointers because they don't ever grow up either...

They work, as said, better early in the season. Same for ducks.

I do not think there is an ethical issue, most states that outlawed reversed their position. They don't change the legal limit.

Nothing better for the first week or so of dove season. Stick them in a straw bale still sitting in the field and the birds try to land on the darn things.

For a couple years we had some Mojo Prostaffers, who used to come out to a property we manacured for doves, and video opening weekend of dove season. They would bring a couple Doz decoys and split them up across our 6 shooting stands. Like has been mentioned, for early season birds they are great. We found that they were more effective in the mornings, and were nearly useless unless the birds wanted to be where you were, I have seen A FEW who would swing by out of their way and give you a look. I will say, I have seen some doves that would nearly commit suicide to land with one. The more the better.

A limit on the strap is nice, but the kill has nothing to do with tradition.

Has anyone tried the a vertical spinner, it's something to throw into goose decoys for those first light mallards.

It works for me. Try it and I think you will agree that it works for you also.

I may be reading more into the OP's first post, but when most talk about a "stand", they aren't talking about effectiveness, but ethics.

And as I said as long as we protect the resouce with reasonable seasons and limits, I see no harm.
