Backpacking/camping/bird hunting from Texas - suggestions

Post by cbump » Sun Nov 10, 2013 3:30 am

Going to have 3 days or so this month and want to take a trip somewhere, just me and the dog, where I have to backpack in and primitive camp, and hunt along the way. Any suggestions?
Anyone been to Black Gap WMA or anywhere else out near the Big Bend area? Will travel out of state as well.

You could do Black gap or NM for gambels, scaled, and mearns.

I hope to do both in January.

I was thinking Black Gap or the Coronado area in AZ. Not sure if I'm allowed to backpack in there though.
What part of NM would you go to?

heres an idea of where the different species can be found and what type of habitat. I've never hunted quail in NM but as I stated Im going to try this coming January. Should be about as productive as my first trip to Idaho for chukars last week....I got skunked.
