A little something different for you guys

Post by Georgia Boy » Wed Nov 20, 2013 4:20 pm

Here are a few pictures of our DJT Diemo (Little D) with his catch of the day.
We got a call from a plumber friend who was working under a old farm house. He said something growled at him and it freaked him out. We took Diemo over to remove it so he could finish his job.

He tracks like crazy, will tree some but not like a hound. They are more opportunistic hunters, bred for earth work mainly. They tree much better on bear or lions where they can see something when they look up a tree. Hard to see a squirrel or other small game in our thick unmanaged southern forests.

Did he kill that coon by himself? I've read a little bit about those dogs and they seem to be pretty ferocious little guys with a lot of heart. Do you have many of them?

What all do you do with him as far as hunting goes?

Yes he handled it by himself, I just had back surgery less than 5 weeks ago and there was no way I could crawl under the house. He is currently the only DJT I have, one of my buddies has several. I use him as a flushing dog some when I hunt down by the river, there is lots of very thick cover that neither myself or the big dogs can get it in. He can push those birds out, put them in the air and retrieve if necessary. I have used them for retrieving during dove season and a little just for the fun of it on ducks. The bulk of his use for us is small furred game, varmints, predators and hogs. definitely not a dog for just anyone but if you hunt like that and can put up with them they are a lot of fun.

That's a nice dog to own. Plenty of versatility.

Some will tree a little but if all you want is a squirrel dog there are many breeds that would be much better, feist or cur mainly. These dogs are mainly bred for putting teeth on game. You can look on youtube and see tons of video people have put up there from training, trials and hunting.

Jagd's are awesome little dogs. Sweet as can be but when they are in the field they are fearless. I have a friend who introduced me while we were hunting quail. But he has pictures of her on Hogs. Pretty amazing for a dog that weighs less than 20 lbs.
