Any suggestions on reasonably priced wild quail hunts where there are good number of birds? I may considering booking one for next season. I am not interested in using their dogs. I want my dog to get the experience.

The Texas quail hunts are legendary. You might poke around the net a bit for a place. But the past couple years of drought have decimated the populations in the southwest.

I thought Kansas had a huntable population of quail. I was planning to go there next season.

There are not many places that you are going to find wild quail. You are even less likely to find a lodge that you hunt wild birds at, most lodges are pen raised birds at this point.

What kind of quail? My dad runs into wild quail in WA state all the time while pheasant hunting.

The quail in KS seem to be rebounding back a little this past season, but nothing great. It seems to get much dog work you have to use pen raised birds.

If you want to hunt California quail(Valley Quail), ID,NV,WA,OR and of course CA usually have good populations and they can be found on public lands.

Hands down, the largest valley quail population I've ever seen: http://www.flyingdoublef.com/newhunting.html

I guide at a lodge here in NW. Kansas we offer quail hunts we have established wild coveys on our property from the birds that have gotten away to neighbors property. Ks quail pop. is down but slowly coming back, some good springs would help! PM Bullets if you'd like. I know spots here in Kansas you may not of hunted

Scott,

That ranch looks like the kinda place a guy could hurt his shoulder shooting so much.

Dirty job, but someone's gotta do it.

In the desert of California, the quail did pair up this year. Last year they didn't nest at all. My normal covey of 100 was down to 6 this spring. Food is scarce and weather is dry, dry, dry! I am supplemental feeding milo and wheat and carrying water to guzzlers, trying to keep this covey viable.
