I was thinking I saw an episode of WUSA involving the ruffed grouse and/or woodcock.

But, I would guess that God's gift of the ruffed grouse never, ever being a Preserve bird would limit the potential for such episodes.
God was thinking on that one.

The typical Grouse and Woodcock cover we hunt does not make for good film footage, you cant see the dog 20 feet away

Anyway, we have been invited to hunt ruffies and woodcocks in at least three states and a couple provinces. This season we finally made room on the schedule to venture to Minnesota and the RGS National Hunt (thanks Terry Wilson and Ugly Dog Hunting Co.). Here's the deal, though: to make a show that most people will watch, (maybe not hard core ruff hunters, who would probably listen to distant flushes all day), we need steady dogs, and SKY. In my opinion (you all have your own) a good show has birds you can SEE as they fly and (sometimes) get shot.

Watching guys shoot at wingbeats in heavy cover does not an entertaining program make. And at about $10K per day in production costs to make a show, if we show up, we'd better have everything working in our favor: dogs, weather, cover, birds, fellow hunters ... or it's ten grand out of yours truly's pocket for a walk in the woods.

I have the two best wingshooting camera operators in the universe, and if anyone can capture grouse and woodcock on camera, Tad and Lynn will. We are up against the cover, of course, but will do our best. Watch for it next year.

Meanwhile, I invite you to watch this season's shows, including wild SD pheasants, chukars and Huns from Oregon, and more.

I use to watch the show, I had it on my DVR. Now its gone and the channel has only fishing shows seems they got rid of all the hunting shows. Is there a list someplace that shows what channels its on. I can by outdoor channels from ROKU but there are a lot and I don't see this show. This is the only upland bird hunting show I have seen in years.

Don't know which channel you were watching mm, but we have left NBC Sports for many reasons and now are on Destination America. Also on Pursuit Channel, which is now on Roku so you can find us there. We are on the air year-round on six networks, and Destination America July-December, so you should be able to catch it. Full list of channels and times is here: http://scottlindenoutdoors.com/wingshoo ... -to-watch/

Actually, we were also invited to a lodge that claimed they could plant ruffies. We opted not to test their abilities.

Well, my camera guys outdid themselves and got epic footage of ruffs and woodcocks in Northern Minnesota ... just as they do on all the wild quail, pheasants, huns and chukars ... sage grouse, sharpies and chickens we've done in past episodes. Yep, pretty tough - they did better than the host did on his shooting.

Watch for the first show next July or August. And again, for all you who asked: about half the birds we hunt in any season are wild. But the dogs don't know the difference anyway and that's why you go, right?

Scott, Just wanted to jump in and tell you how much I enjoy your show. Not enough bird dog shows out there.

Great tips during the show and look forward to the grouse episode.

Scott, coming from someone who lives about 70 percent of his year on a drilling rig, I look forward to your early morning shows and they help me somewhat keep my sanity, while not hunting. Planted birds or wild, I will continue To follow!
