Another year
Another year
Tomorrow the forest grouse season opens in Idaho and Monday it's mourning doves. The fun, frustation and humor of hunting with dogs starts again. I hope your pups get into lots of birds and get to feel lots of feathers in their mouths. Good luck to all of you in the coming year.

My buddy and I hunted blues the opener but got rained out after we both got one bird. Dove hunting was slow because we usually hunt over limited watering sites and this year there was no limit to watering sites. Got some though.

Re: Another year
Well count your blessings I wish we could get rained out.
I had the best dove season I've had in several years but it was dusty dry.
Fortunately we had a canal right next to us for the dogs.

It's raining now but this weekend was dry and we got out sage hen hunting. We all got our bird and my buddies son got his first sage hen and I hope it is not his last. We saw quite a few birds but the flocks were not as big. "Field and Stream" has an article this month on the diversity of Idaho bird hunting. (Something we in the state always knew). They didn't even mention sage hens though.

All the abundance of all species cycles up and down has this been a long term drop.fishvik wrote:It's raining now but this weekend was dry and we got out sage hen hunting. I think that with all the precip we had in August the birds were scattered and not all bunched near water or on lush vegetation, where we were hunting, thus the smaller flocks.
