We all know the numbers are down historically speaking but I would love to hear from anyone that has been out. Right now I am planinng on heading to central Kansas around Hays. I would love to hear about how anyone has done that has already been out. Just to head this off before it starts, there always seems to be guys on here that give people heck for stating where they did well and giving away the, "honey holes". Fellas just looking for reports on different regions.... If that upsets you just bypass the conversation.

I can not say anything about the current season but last year i was in NE Kansas, near Frankfort on walk in ground all around that area. Seen very few pheasant, and a handful of quail is all. Shot more rabbits than anything on our "pheasant" trip.

I would go to nebraska instead

Last year in n.w. kansas I got into pockets of birds....on private land that I asked permission on. I am headed to central just based off of the reports the department of wildlife issued.....

I just got back from hunting private land around Eureka Ks.
We found 8 big coveys of quail per day. We were short on good dogs, so I know we missed lots of birds. Looks like the quail are doing better up there. Good luck.

My brother is in north central KS now, they're seeing some birds but it doesn't sound fast and furious by any means.

Kansas Report?!?!?

I drove around Glen Elder area for two days with my Viszla. Busted one covey quail, shot one bird and saw a hen someone shot. Saw two hens fly across the road one morning into crp, hunted all day hard probably half dozen or so areas - nothing not even a scent. Milo, crp, hit it all. Did see two roosters fly across the road on the way back out. I headed back home

I have hunted several days pretty hard in various places in KS. I've hunted public, wiha, and private. So far, only two coveys. So far its been pretty bleak for me. I have heard that some have found a few quail.

Here in the central part I think the numbers are up a little. We been going to walk in areas and always seen birds. I have notice that most birds are close to corn stubble fields /CRP. So far at work the guys tell me they been having good luck around Dodge city.

My dogs are on the way to Liberal right now with a buddy. Me, I have to work. Gotta find a different job.

Now we all have a better appreciation for the phrase "You lucky dog!"

The bird numbers are up in nebraska. Went out today found 6 coveys in 2 spots. Found 7 coveys in one spot the week before. Pheasants are up to.seen alot of people out this Thanksgiving weekend

A friend of mine hunted around Hays a couple weeks ago got into some Pheasants Sat. and Sun. Wish you luck and your dog much better luck.

We had a great hunt in Central KS. All walk in. Three guys and three dogs. four days of hunting and killed 20 Roosters, 13 quail, and three prairie Chickens... Still not the best I have ever seen but WAY up from years past!

Headed to the Great Bend area tomorrow....heard things are looking better. Keeping my fingers crossed!

we hunted Stockton KS all walk in areas were hunted hard around that area early, saw plenty of shell casings laying, but no birds!! asked to hunt some private property & got into 3 coveys of quail & 4 roosters on our last day there. (the week before xmas) now the trip to south Dakota is a different story lotsa birds

It's unfortunate hunters just leave their hulls where they land with no attempt to pick them up. Don't you just love walking along and seeing trash left behind by others?

Just got back from SC and SE KS. The walk in was disappointing to say the least. No quail on public, but a tresspass fee day hunt produced four covey's. I saw alot of other hunters out with the nice weather, but have done better than KS in surrounding states this year. Two trips to ks did not sell me on the hunting. Tough access and not many birds IMHO. Hopefully it starts raining this spring, but then that's hard on areas where there are birds now. Tough life being an upland game bird these days.
