The Core Banks to try and get a wild pheasant from the only place they live in North Carolina.

Montana, North Dakota, and Canada early and Idaho and Oregon the rest of the season. This is what we like to do to make young dogs.

I spent almost two weeks in Kansas this season and (don't tell anyone else this on here  ) darn did the PC's make a comeback! Not as many as there were say, ten years ago but, still a very noticeable improvement.

Thing is though, I was there midseason and the birds wouldn't let the pups within 200 yards of them in the field. Not only that, driving from spot to spot the birds would flush from a 1/4 mile away just at the sound/sight of my vehicle. So, if you don't already know this...go as early as you can in the season when the birds can be pointed/hunted with success. And bring lotsa water because it can get down right hot that time of year.

WI to grouse hunt.

Talked about it for years, and haven't done it since HS.

As much as I can, as many places as I can with my new pup!
A dog on point.....steady, yet trembling,
Breathing in and tasting the gentle breeze.
Take a moment for yourself to soak it all in,
All the training, the hard work.....it really has paid off.

I don't care where. I'm just hoping more. Only made it out about 20 days this year. It would be cool to double that!

Thanks for the tips!

I've been bird hunting for 10 years, hunting some of the same land the whole time (Oklahoma). Saw Prairie Chickens (almost 50) for the first time. That really lit a fire!

+1. And I'll try northern MN to let my new pointer cut her teeth on ruffies.

My last Britt got lame and couldn't hunt her last few years and then I lost her last Sept.

Hopefully, my so far wonderful little setter's gonna make my autumn special this year~

Only legal upland species my 12 year old Setter has not pointed is the Mountain Quail. We'll hunt the North Umpqua drainage in SW Oregon for his personal career grand slam.

With my 12 year old soon to be 13 year old son :) Iowa, maybe nebr. Scott, I saw you hunt Pheasant bonanza, there was one field we used to hunt in, we got to the end and a pheasant flushed into the over head line and killed him self. I called my brother told him to tune in, he goes hey that was where that bird hung himself :) thanks for bringing that excellent day of hunting back to the front of my memories. I watch the show, saw you playing around like you hit the hot wire on one hunt :) I got a kick out of that. Keep up the great work and see you on the telly soon.
