A good start

Post by fishvik » Mon Aug 31, 2015 10:02 am

Yesterday was the forest grouse opener in Idaho. Went out north of Idaho Falls. The first place I hunted was a bust. No flushes and cattle had worked over the habitat. The next place I tried was good. Flushed about 12 dusky grouse and got 4. Dogs worked well and they found 2 birds I couldn't have gotten without them. Found birds in mixed brush?bunchgrass/doug fir. Fruit production on snowberry and chokecherry was minimal. May be hard on birds if we have a tough winter. Birds were all large and well developed and they were strong flyers. Tomorrow dove opens.

NEhomer, Just got back from MA last week. We were visiting my brother and my son was attending a goalie camp. I grew up in southern CT, the humidity you guys had helped me remember one of the reasons I left. Nice to see that density of trees though. Good looking dog you have there. Is it a good grouse dog? Hope you have a good seasen.
