I believe I would search for an older used Filson.
I ordered mine years ago w/o the fabric treatment and w/o the orange and it still works swell today....the less geejaws, the better on a vest.

I have had alot of different vests/jackets and this is by far my favorite. If this one ever wears out i will buy another. Lots of storage, hydration pack and good back support.

Tom, what about loading? I am looking for a vest that is easy to load the birds in. I am looking for the loading style where it is almost front to back? Not sure how to explain that.

I have a Wings Works that I like for training, guiding, or when on a long hunt from the truck. It's great if you need to carry a lot of weight. However it is a bit cumbersome, and if I'm going on a leisurely hunt with my personal dogs, I use a basic Filson strap vest. It has enough room for a basic first aid kit for the dogs, shells and to carry a few birds.

I believe I know what you're asking. The portion of the vest that holds birds is accessible from the side or at least very near the front pockets.

Pella strap vest is easy to load birds into. I like having 4 front pockets for gear and shells, big back pocket with straps to tie jacket on and water bottle pouches. I did have to make some modification to the vest as I found the belts for adjustments to long and the keepers on the ends of the traps are useless... best to cut them off. Vest is also made in USA.

I have an older version of the Pella and it is a PITA to load birds into.......and a limit of healthy Roosters barely fits. I do love it though. The water bottle holders are awesome, and it has the perfect amount of storage for a Midwest hunter IMO. I have had this one for 10+ years and it has held up great.

The newer version looks much better as far as loading.

That is one of the nice features of the WingWorks vest. Very easy to load birds in, even large rooster pheasants. It has a back pack style belt so the weight is on your hips. Nice when carrying 2-3 pheasants along with the the two 1 liter water bottles. And it has plenty of storage for about anything you would want to carry in the field. Plus they are build like a tank.

I'll add another feature I really like about the wing works vest is the loop on back for carrying the clothes you strip off as you warm up.

I am in the same boat of looking for one. I really like the wing works but its a bit expensive for me. The bucks bags one looked nice but I think I decided on the LL Bean partridge 2 strap vest. It has good reviews and is more affordable at $120 with free shipping.

I am thinking about buying the LL Bean Partridge 2 strap vest as its a bit more in my price range and seems to have good solid reviews. I am very interested in the WW but just can't justify the cost vs my useage.

I have the Browning Bird N Lite. I've only had it for a year, but so far I like it. Pretty good price compared to some of the other options.

My recommendation is to go with Wing Works. I am a very hard core bird hunter and am not "easy " on my gear. Wing Works is extremely durable, and very comfortable with the way it distributes weight. It is also very adjustable to get the right fit. There are also a lot of customized options available for it.

I think he ended up getting the the q5 Centerfire. I got one too. I'm really happy with mine. I don't think you can beat the quality plus it's made in the USA.
