2015 Omaha Indian Rez

rez 2015 opener 001.JPG
Three of us had a good opening day hunt. We knocked 6 birds down & saw quite a few more. I've never had luck like I did today  Only hens were getting up around me today--I only had 1 shot at a rooster & it was already hit  (didn't want it to run because it was a long ways from the dogs). I did get a few hen points, so at least I had some good dog work. Shooter did get to retrieve 3 of the birds :D

Star--rez 11-3-2015 003.JPG
We're still doing pretty good on the rez. Four of us have gotten 24 roosters so far. There's about double the people hunting it this year, so there is more competition for birds. Mark & I shot terrible today  --we should of got 9 birds and ended up knocking down just 4 of them. Oh well it was still a fun hunt and we had good dog work :D Above is a picture of Star and her 2 birds.

Having fun doing it is just as good as putting birds in your bag! I'm headed to Iowa tonight for a 4 day hunt with a friend.

penny5 rez 11-14-15 005.JPG
I got a real dirty look from Penny5 this morning  ---I missed her first three birds  and she wasn't very happy  I did get the next two for her :D . Were still finding birds--the 4 of us that hunt up there are up to 36 so far this year. The bad news is they are starting to burn some of their CRP. I don't think we'll do as good as last year, but we're going to try. THE HILLS SEEM TO BE A LOT STEEPER UP THERE THIS YEAR :!: :!:

Well, it finally froze the min maintance roads on the rez where we could drive back to a couple of our good spots. Only could hunt a couple of hours and then had to high tail it out because it was starting too thaw the roads. Mark and I had a good morning getting shots at 6 roosters and bagging 4 of them. We saw about 20 other birds that got up out of range(1/2 of those were roosters). We aren't doing as good as last year(63) but were up to 47 and having a good time with the dogs. Mark's little setter(Jordi) is really coming on this year & pinning all kinds of roosters :D I've attached a picture of Shooter(10 years old) & our morning birds.

so it's not just me? always great to get out with the dogs.
took a day off work on Wednesday with the intention of a day hunt in the St. Cloud area. the 1 to 2 inches of snow turned out to be 5-8" and I never left town.
