Missouri opener

Post by nhachman » Mon Nov 02, 2015 9:17 am

Hunted with dad and my cousin yesterday in NW Missouri. 3 coveys of quail, a few more singles, and saw about a dozen roosters. It did get warm, dry and windy in the afternoon so the dogs had trouble smelling and we lost a few quail. Ended the day with two roosters and two quail in the bag.

I'm headed up to south central Iowa tonight for 4 days of hunting. From what I hear we should get into plenty of birds.

It did get hot quick Sunday. We found 5 coveys and bagged 5 birds. Hoping tomorrow will be better weather wise.

After 3 days of hunting birds in Iowa with a friend, the dogs are tired and I'm dog tired. We walked a bunch to say the least. We ended up with 7 roosters and 2 quail. There were plenty of other missed opportunities. The 2 quail came from the one covey we saw in all three days. My young brittany got his first wild bird point that turned out to be a hen pheasant. He stayed steady to flush.

Went Saturday, found 9 coveys and killed 16 birds. Went Sunday and found 2 coveys. Killed 2 birds. Ready for deer season to get over with.

Deer hunting has ruinined quail hunting and coon hunting. Everyone leases ground to bring people in who will pay to shoot a deer and the guy who has grown up on the joining property can't even step foot on the leased ground. Gets pretty frustrating but there's nothin we can do about it

Still a lot of cover in North Missouri, it is pretty dry too. We are finding birds in pockets and things have a been a little better the last two seasons.
