south texas quail hunt
Went to public land this weekend to try to get some quail. Cover was veryv thick and it made it hard to get shots off. Found three covies in the first hour and a half. The two that were shot where taken in cover that wasn't as thick. Quail numbers are are as good as we have seen in decades. Back to shooting ducks next weekend.

Was thinking of trying out some of the Texas Parks & Wildlife public hunting spots. Was the one crowded where you went?
Re: south texas quail hunt
No, it was when I went in January this year with about 150 Hunters on Saturday. I didn't get a count when I when a couple of weeks ago but am guessing a hundred. I had pastures all to my self. I am going again in a couple of weeks.

Is it hard finding land in Texas to hunt on? We are getting ready to move to TX from Florida and I am anxious to start finding some good spots.

Public land yes, this is a wma that is not open often for quail and there is another large one in North Texas that is open more often than this one.Finelinegundogs wrote:Is it hard finding land in Texas to hunt on? Thanks,
I am hoping I can make a few contacts to get on some of these larger private places or possibly lease some land.
