Number of hours hunted per day.

Had a general question for the north east grouse / woodcock hunters. On a given day, what is the average number of hours that you are out hunting.

Where I hunt in New York southern zone by Binghamton most of my spots are generally small. At a casual walking pace to let the dog work I may be in and out in an hour tops. Then move down the road a 1/2 mile and repeat. Sometimes hit 3 spots over the course of 2 1/2 to 3 hours. Although I know my dog would continue he to hunt I know he is getting tired when he is reluctant to jump up in the truck.

3 hours even when I hunt outside NY.

It's not grouse but had the dogs out for a 4 hour hunt. 1 ran 25 miles the other ran 27 miles
Both were tired and sore the rest of the day. Decided not to go out the next day. One is one year old. The other not in great shape yet.

A 3 to 4 hour hunt on sharpies usually does my 8 yo GSP,Hanna, in. Puck, my 6 yo Lab/GWP can go longer but he doesn't cover as much country. Heavier brush and taller grass usually cuts down their endurance.

In grouse woods, 3-6 hours with my 6 year old Brittany. Pheasants in tall grass, 2-4 hours. Depends on weather and how good of shape she's in.

in my younger days we would hunt 8hrs and 2 days in a row when hunting in softer soils on valley quail. Last week hunting chuckar in lava at 75 with a 3 yr old pup it is 4 hrs a day and 4 days in a row.
