Nice grouse point....and miss...

Post by marc » Sat Nov 26, 2016 4:50 pm

Mauser locates a ruffed grouse in tough conditions, and I trim some beech whips and scare it good. He's not bad for 14 months of age! These birds on my property have been pointed, flushed, and shot at all season too, so there's a learning curve for both bird and dog.

I give a big shout out to Brad Higgins, for his philosophy of "the bird says whoa". With his method, Mauser has been reliably steady to shot, and I can feel confident taking a shot like this knowing that Mauser isn't on its tail.
