Prairie Grouse

Post by averageguy » Sun Oct 14, 2018 6:03 am

Got some time on the Prairie with Spud last week. Had some tough days (cold, high wind, rain and spooky grouse flushing wild at long ranges) and some better days (low wind, sunshine, grouse holding for points). Loved it all. Spud put in an average of 21 miles a day at 10 MPH, hunting on a run, same the 5th day as the first. I gave out before he did.

Black Spec in the center is Spud out digging for grouse.

Great pictures! Looks like a fine time.
What state is that? Besides the 'state of joy', I mean.

Wow. Those are great pics. That's what it is all about , isn't it.

I smiled when I read your post saying, " Spud put in an average of 21 miles a day at 10 MPH, hunting on a run, same the 5th day as the first. I gave out before he did." That has always been my thought when we get into one of these stamina discussions when talking dog food. Makes me wonder if the dog and I need to switch diets

Ezzy, I relearned a tough lesson on this trip. Let myself get dehydrated and ended up hopping around the motel room with horrible leg cramps one evening. Spud thought I was nuts. 3 Bananas (morning, noon, afternoon) and 4 flavored waters/Gatorade a day for me after that episode.
