Try it with Ground Game
Try it with Ground Game
Not exactly Gun Dogs , but they are used .
Thought some on here maybe get an idea of what some get up to on our side of the pond . The aerial shots are worth a watch if nothing else .
A bit long at nearly 1/2 an hour , but well worth it (imo)

Enjoyed it. I have watched several episodes of that program on youtube. I was the youngest licensed Falconer in my State a long time ago. Flew a a couple of Redtails and a Kestrel and then moved on to other pursuits. It is an all consuming sport leaving room for nothing else. Fortunately I have Friends who have continued on with the sport and have been treated to hunt with GyrFalcon, Peregrine, Goshawk, Sharpshin, Harris, Redtail.

I have been the dog for my friends red tail for years. Busting brush for rabbits many times. When I retire, I will go through my apprenticeship.

Pretty much the truth .Bdabird wrote:I have been the dog for my friends red tail for years. Busting brush for rabbits many times. When I retire, I will go through my apprenticeship.
Any pictures or videos . Most concentrate on Birds in the air rather than Ground game with Dogs and Birds of Prey.

Sorry, I have no videos or pictures. We have used his Jack Russell a few times, but his dog and bird don’t like to share. We also hunted squirrel with red tail. We carry a sling shot to run squirrels out of nest to the hawk perched nearby.
If we don’t produce game for hawk, he will not return to the glove.

We must go through an apprenticeship to be a licensed falconer in the U.S.
Re: Try it with Ground Game
Some should go through the same with dogs .
Re: Try it with Ground Game
I know more about training a hawk to hunt than training a dog to hunt. Only because I studied more about falconry than training a dog to hunt.
A hawk only associates you as a means to be fed. They never think of a human as anything other than that.
I expect to be more than that to a dog, but how do we know? Because it wags it’s tail?

Well, dogs are much more generous in their displays of affection, they'll be happy to see you coming back home after work, will demand attention and not just food, and will, if the need arises, defend you.
