New Mexico Scaled Quail - An Evening to Remember

Post by dogmountain » Sat Feb 08, 2020 4:32 pm

My derby dog Sunny had a great evening on scaled in New Mexico. Birds were down a bit this year, but on this evening she had 17 finds in 3 hours on feeding groups (dispersed coveys). I missed a few birds that night, but it was an absolute pleasure to Sunny do her thing steady through the shot (manual release).

Those look like oil/gas tanks. You near Farmington or Hobbes? I used to work out that way some. Didn’t know there was good quail shooting. Is there decent public access?

Simply stunning!! Thanks for sharing Sir.
I have been invited to hunt NM next season. I may take the gent up on his offer while I'm in AZ.
I took him out here for a hunt and he was so appreciative. We had a blast until he tried to take my setter from me!
