Leave home Sept 8 with my two GSP's.

Will hunt Wyoming, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Idaho, Oregon, Nevada, Utah and AZ.

Have never hunted Utah before. However I will not leave a spot that has lots of birds.

I will cover 10,000 miles and be out until the first of the year.

I am 79 years old and my last bird hunting buddy died last year, so I am doing this solo. Contact me if you want of join up along the line.

That sounds like one heck of a fine plan! Envious of your longevity and continued desire. Can’t wait to see the pictures, and I might have to take you up on that offer.

Very sad to report that I have my second hip surgery scheduled for 9/14 so I'm going to miss this season. Hoping I can drive to our hunting grounds so my buddies can run Whip but I'm not so sure he'll get very far without checking back in with me as he always does.

He's 9 now so not too many seasons left and that's the rub. Later in the season, I'll buy and release a few birds for him if need be.

Cripes.

...wish I could join you OP!

Ruffed grouse for supper tonight.

Sage grouse opens tomorrow.

High desert looks green, lush with lots of water.

Jealous of your supper. Lucky for me i brought venison. 9 ruffed grouse flushes, 1 missed shot, great day with the pups. Both got some really good bird contacts today. Its a lot of work running 2 15 month old birds dogs!

Well my dogs have found our share of Sage Grouse, with leftover sage grouse alfredo for supper tonight. Yummy

Will move to Montana over the next two days and try our luck on Sharp Tail..

Montana's pheasant season starts the first weekend in October and non-residents can't hunt them the first week. I don't want to be there for the zoo!

I'll move to a place with no pheasants!

Been loven shooting one of my 20 ga SxS.

Best wishes

Good luck! Just arrived in ND. Was able to get out for about an hour tonight. No birds, but did jump 2 coyotes. Needed a rifle.

Good news. After a rough patch my recovery has been remarkable. I had the surgery two weeks ago and I'm off pain meds and walking quite well with a cane. When our season opens in 3 weeks I'm definitely going to be able to walk the more level terrains we hunt. My buddies can do the thicker and hillier stuff but I'm now certain that I'm going to be able to enjoy most of the season at least.

Whip has been at my side every step of the way to help get me out there!

First wild bird this little wirehair has ever handled. Bird ran a little after it hit the ground, she tracked it and made a 65-70 yard retrieve. Her hold needs a little work, but she done good.

Not sure this year. My lone dog, Burley, got a minor tear in her ACL in late August. I have no idea how it happened. We are slowly working her back but missed all of September and will probably miss all of October. Possibly by November she will be able to take short hunts (right up my alley) and may be able to go West again. We'll see. Maybe we can both hobble through a game farm at least. :( :(

17Hunter, nice! I am a fan of the versatile breeds. First seasons with new pups are such fun.
Gypsy! I can’t think of a better way to spend the fall. I’m a little bit envious. I will be knocking around freelancing with a longtime hunting buddy and our 4 dogs through the end of the month in some of the same states.
