Twas the afternoon before christmas and all through the field not a pheasant was safe when we hit the field....

Thougth what better way to start off the christmas week than shooting some roosters and I even got some pictures of it all hope you enjoy.

You guys arent required to have a collar on your dog? We have to have one when hunting here has to have name,address and phone numbers. It's actually in the hunting rulebook.

no requirements on collars. I've had dogs u wouldn't let loose with out one so they could make it home when they got lost but my dogs now all handle very easy. She has flashes of a gundog but mostly runs a hunt test course when out in the field. She had a couple big moves of 1/2 mile a couple times but she yo-yo's her moves so shes never far. Thanks everyone.

Danro I just flew a dog out to Philly last friday. a started dog to be used for guiding out there. do you have much wild bird hunting out there?

HA! wild birds in eastern PA! nah, you probably won't find more than a handfull wild pheasants in all of PA, certainly not around philadelphia. it's a shame really. the guy was probably either doing game preserve hunts or was going out to far west PA where you'll have the best chance of seeing any bird not born in captivity. nope..any bird you shoot around here will be fat and flat...meaning they're so fat they can't even fly more than 15 feet off the ground, not exactly the most enjoyable hunt you'll ever partake in but what can you do?

I know he was doing game farm birds. When you say you need to go hunting what will you hunt? Farm raised birds? I think you have grouse woods north of you or maybe not?

Yeah, I've got some good grouse spots scouted in NE Pa, but if you're pheasant hunting in Pa, it's farm raised birds for you. Although I hear rumor that the game commission is going to release wild birds from South Dakota if they enact a pheasant stamp. That might help us out a little. (sorry s. dakota guys ) Late flintlock deer season opened today also so no doubt I'll be out there freezin' my butt off this week too.

I live north of Lincoln. I do most of my hunting around Valparaiso and out by McCook. I can't wait to start training my new pup. She is only 4 months so I've started with the basics. Man is she hard headed, but once she gets something she seems to retain it well. NE-Viz

I'm guessing you have a Vizsla. Where did you get her at? NE-vizsla that posted on here has two Vizsla's one top notch and the other we'll he's coming around. I myself got a vizsla this last fall also shes ok buts shes no brittany I'll tell ya.

My Viz is only 4 months old, so I'm not really able to tell much about her yet. I grew up with britts. My dad bought a least 5 or so. Not one was worth a crud no matter what papers they came with. We did have one that turned into one of the best house dogs we have ever had. We also had a couple GSP and they where pretty good. The best dog we ever had was a oops. She was a mix and was free after the owner made us take her when we bought a used car from him . I don't have anything against britts. I just don't have a lot a faith in them, or at least the dozen or so I've hunting behind. NE-Viz

Are you just going to train her yourself? Myself and NE-Vizsla both do some training with Jim Keller in Martell great guy and could help you lots if you need anything just a suggestion. Jim currently has one of my worthless brittanys now . I'll be down in lincoln doing some hunting south of town tommorow thats as long as I can get my butt out in the cold that is. You should post a pic of your Vizsla on here they are very good looking dogs and always like seeing bird dogs. What lines is your female out of?

I forgot to add her history. I'm not sure where my wife put her papers. To be completely honest with you, I'm not sure I know how to read them right now even if I did have them. I'm more then sure I'm not going to reg. her since I plan on getting her spayed. I bought here form a kennel in Brocken Bow, Nebraska. NE-Viz
