From Breaux Bridge I use a 12 on everything. I just adjust the load Oz. and powered. Its light a t just a tad over 6 Ibs. Ruger Stainless.

Northern Cajun,
Actually for both places that you live & hunt the 12 Guage Ruger SS was a very wise choice, I wish John would have made a SS 20 guage with DT, I would own one today.

When I'm up in the brush hunting ruffed grouse or woodcock I take my 870 Wingmaster in 20. It was my first gun when I turned 12 and do great with it. I took it to South Dakota for phesants but couldn't knock them down. That could have to do with my first trip out west though. Second time out west I took my grandpas Remington modle M-10 in 12 ga. I missed alot of birds but I blame the goofy trigger guard saftey. The latest trips to South Dakota I borrowed my brothers BPS and hit everything with it! My goal is to get a red label in 12 ga. sometime. Any other suggestions for a good o/u that fits like a red label?
I also just bought my wife an 870 express in 12 ga. for her first shotgun. Trouble is she shoots clays better than I do with it.

HuntinSconny,
If you like hunting with a O/U, 12 guage I suggest you look at the Browning Citori Grade VI, great shooting weapons in the field and decently engraved also.
My brother has one and he is deadly with it, in the field and on the clays course.

NikeGunDog,
Got to agree for money spent The Ruger Red label is a quality weapon, and the Stainless O/U is a very serious long lasting weapon for any kind of weather. We know some boys in Texas who leave their SS Ruger guns in their Duck blinds on their own private property all the time. One time they had a flood and the blinds were completely under water, when the water receded they went to hunt out of the blind and the SS Ruger was actually laying in the muddy water. The owner pulled the Ruger out of the muddy water, wiped it down, cleared the BBls of mud & water, stuck two sells in the gun, and test fired the gun. The SS Ruger with its synthetic stocks functioned perfectly. They shot Snow Geese with it the rest of the day. Now this is once serious weapon.

Tough guns, I agree....but I wouldn't want to carry the 12 gauge...great as a boat oar though. I'd go for the 20 gauge ... but not for waterfowl.

Ryman, Do you notice any problems with the glare from the stainless steel barrels? I do notice it sometimes on a blued barrel, thought the stainless might be way worse, but haven't seen them in the field. Nice thing about the Red Label is the frames are sized for the gauge.

The past two seasons I've been shooting a Rizzini "Field Omnium" O/U 12g (Italian made). I love this gun more than what I would like to publically post here!(for fear my wife would somehow read this). I am 35 years old and I hope to shoot this same gun every season until I die. Nothing fancy but solid. It just fits me perfect and matches my swing like a dream. As a kid I grew up shooting a 1940's Marlin Model 90 16g O/U DT handed down from my dad. I still have it. I break it out every once in awhile for old time sake! Still shoots like a charm!

NikeGunDog,
Never noticed much of a problem with them in that manner, if John would have made a 20 Guage Red Lable with DT it would be getting a work out
in my Grouse woods as a training gun no doubt about it. When they 1st came out we shot one all day long on the Nemacolin Clays course and never noticed a glare problem, some of the guys in the Texas blinds wrap them in camo or camo paint them I know.

I have used a Browning 5-A light 12 for skeet and sporting clay's and all my hunting for many years and can't tell you how many thousand of rounds went through it and never had a problem of any sort. I just change the chokes according to need. Most of my hunting is grouse and woodcock in heavy cover.

The Ruger stainless is a beast. A 12 Ga that can Shoot 3" can kill any bird you want. You can break it. The Texas boys like me learned quickly that you hardly ever have to clean them. And as far as glare one of two things you dont see much glare looking down the barrels and 2 you can always dip them to an camo pattern making them even more impervious to weather. A great gun that will last forever.

Beretta 390 12 ga, 1920's era A-5 Sweet 16, Tristar 16 ga. O/U. Depends on what and where I am hunting, the 390 gets the most use. The 16's will see a lot of upland hunts and occasionally a duck hunt.

870 express super mag since high school. Still goes bang when I pull the trigger, although it sure isn't the pretties thing to look at. But I'll take function over form any day of the week.

On that note, I'd love to be able to save up for an auto loader. Since I'm not a big fan of 3.5 inch shells, I think I'd like to pick up a Benelli M2. Cheaper than some of their other models, but from what I've heard, still pretty darn bulletproof.

rem 310 12 ga. yes it's cheep but the birds still fall down and through 3 years I have never had a problem. I only bought it because I couldn't bring my grandpa's browning into the field anymore after I saw the value. I may go to a semi to get the extra shot but I do very well with the 310.

Mostly I shoot my 20ga O/U Huglu 103D I brought back from Turkey in 2000. I have a host of Brownings and Remingtons in the safe along with an 835 which I waterfowl with. But, the Huglu is the one that is in the fields with me the most.

I bought a Browning Citori Upland Special in 20 ga this year. I absolutely love it for hunting over my GSP. It is super light,24 inch barrels with changable chokes. I usually shoot skeet and imp cyl. Never had a straight stock before but this works great for me. I also bought a CZ 12 ga Canvasback this year and have used it some too. I dont believe you could find a better new o/u for the money of the CZ. I just picked up a SKB 12 ga o/u on Gunbroker. Havent got it yet but have always wanted one. I will get it out a few times before seasons over and see how it shoots.

Blaser F3 o/u with 34" bbl's and Briley extended chokes. It also has 20,28 and .410 full length sub gauge tubes so I can do anything with it. My "beater" is a Beretta 391.

The upland arsenal includes:
Benelli Montefeltro 20ga
Ithica 200e sxs in 20ga
Fausti Class o/u 20ga
Franchi model 48 20ga.....a favorite
Last but not least an old 16ga. Remington 870 with the barrel opened up to skeet.....The death of woodcock
