Safely shoot without a tapped scope mount?

The Remington Mag. 1100- formerly a turkey gun- has been converted into a waterfowl/turkey gun with the purchase of a new steel shot barrel.

The receiver has been drilled and tapped for the scope mount that now sits on the top side of the receiver. The mount is secured with two small screws into the top side of the receiver.

During Duck hunting, the scope mount screws tend to loosen with all the recoil.

During Duck hunting can I remove the mount and still safely shoot the gun? My assumption is that nothing will be compromised by doing this.

I would recommend removing the mount are replacing the screws with shorter screws to protect the threads. With the problem with the screws coming loose during recoil, try Lock Tight, make sure you get the level of bonding you desire (Don't get permanent if the plan on removing the base).
