1100 20G Standard

Post by claybuster_aa » Thu Apr 12, 2012 8:46 pm

Greg,
I need action assembly bars. My standard has been out of commission for awhile. Any ideas where I can find this part? I called around a few places and this is going to be a difficult one.... Problem is if I do find one, someone is going to want an arm and a leg for it.

Greg? Is that the brand of gun? Get ahold of the manufacturer. If not that, search Numrich Arms. Hope I spelled that right!

No, Greg Jennings...the only person I know on this list besides myself who has a 20 gauge STD. There may be more owners here, I don't know but that was meant to hopefully get his attention. Yes, I checked Numrich...a great site for parts. No luck there but I may email them to to see if they have a waiting list.

I am fairly sure the parts for a 12 gauge will fit your standard 20. Might make your parts search easier. Brownells, Numrich, Ebay. If you come across an 870 standard 20 gauge barrel in your search give me a heads up.
Also your dog in the avatar is absolutely handsome.

I checked on that prior when I first start looking around for this part awhile back. The 12 gauge action bars will not fit on the 20 STD, even though the gun was built on the 12 frame...something about the mag tube. Shot my very first perfect round of skeet with the gun, hate to see it useless now.

Thanks for the avatar compliment. She is out of PA from Keith Smith. Got her in '02 and she is doing great and loves to hunt!

I have another bud with one. He had to have it custom made. I don't remember all the details, but I gather it was made starting from 12 ga and 20 ga LW parts.

Sorry to be so slow on this. Since starting the new job, I don't read the forums as much as I have in the past. If you need me for any reason, PM me here.

My STD, btw, is in the gun safe with a good coating of Eezox.

If I ever come across another in decent shape, very first thing I'll do is replace the hammer spring. The bars probably were not meeting enough resistance on the way back creating too much stress on them. A brand new hammer spring will probably fit in that gun and I should have done that first thing.

Try the Beretta A300. It feels a lot like the 1100 standard weight.

Well, I finally got her fixed a few months back, and it shoots great! I took the gun up to Worcester MA, LaRocca Gun Works for the job. He gave it a good overhaul. When he took out the action spring it was about a good inch plus shorter than a new spring. New firing pin spring. New link...the ends of the old link had worn and were about 1/4" shorter than a new. Brand new action bar assembly and sleeve, and that was were the difficultly comes into play. You can't get that part today, unless it is coming off a used gun. If you find one you're going to pay, plus you won't know what kind of condition those bars are in...probably very well used. So, luckily a new 12 gauge action bar assembly is a near identical fit, but the problems comes in where the bolt sits. The base where the bolts sits has to be milled off on one side to accommodate the 20 gauge bolt. All said and done, 300 bucks, still looks like it has a million miles on 'er, but she shoots like new. I'm glad I got the gun fixed!

My 1100 20 ga is my all time favorite shotgun, its my go too pheasant/grouse/rabbit gun. Mine runs perfectly, I will look around for your action bars if your still looking.

I have decided to shoot my Standard in the ECSC Winter League this season. So far we have three matches under our belts. Two of those matches we lost, partly because we had to take some blind scores. First match we were a man down in our squad and the second match we were down two shooters. The double blind really stinks. Anyway, started off pretty decent but have gotten worse, most likely reason no time for practice rounds, just showing up at the matches. Out of 50, so far I have recorded a 48, 47, and a 45. 8 matches left, we go until April 12 2015.
