Hogdon Longshot power

Post by ACooper » Fri Jun 08, 2012 7:58 pm

Not sure how many reloaders we have here, but I am about to try some new recipes with some Longshot powder. Anyone use it? Experiences?

Use it for 28 ga load. Works wells I use it to hunt with.

One of my favorite powders, use it for 12 and 16 ga., steel and lead shot.

You mean Loudshot? :D

I have used it for some 12ga hunting loads and used in exclusively in 28 until I switched to 20/28. Using the Win AA HS 28ga hulls when they first came out - volume was an issue and Longshot worked great. All joking aside - it does sound different/louder to me when I shoot a load of it.

I use it for heavy 20 ga 1oz loads. Plenty of speed and knock down for late season jumpy birds

Use it in 28 ga. clays and live birds...shoots well and leaves barrel relatively clean.

No doubt its loud.
I know alot of the oldtimers who shoot alot of turkey shoots / knockouts love it. When I need some "Hefty" trap loads with some serious "Pep" for shooting knockout competitions I will find a good recipe and utilize it. Any smokeless powder will work, its all relative to your application.

Good Luck Coop. :D

1 1/8 oz loads with 6 shot/Longshot are death on phez. I have gone over to mostly 20 ga for phez hunting now but when I was using the 12 ga, I used Longshot home loads.
