I've been saving $$$ for a new gun and looking for quite some time now. Came across an LC Smith 2E 12 gauge today. Gun is in good shape and seems like a fair price.
My only concern. I mostly hunt MN public land, non-tox shot is needed, will this gun be okay with non-tox?
The associate at the gun shop said I should be fine as long as I'm not shooting anything large such as BB, 2 shot, etc....
Thoughts?

Check the drop at heel and comb. The older guns were chin mounted and not cheek mounted. Damascus?
If steel barrels I still wouldnt run steel loads through it. Bismuth or Hevi-shot, low brass. The Smith's have a tendency of cracking at the wrist/sidelock when using hot loads. Don't extend the chambers. Its an older gun bordering on antique. Shoot 2 1/2 or 2 3/4 RST's. Enjoy it for what it is.
I own a 1913.

Thanks for the info John, I appreciate it very much. Not sure if they are damascus barrels. The Zephyr wrote:Check the drop at heel and comb. The older guns were chin mounted and not cheek mounted. Damascus?

I don't know a ton about shotguns. What's extending the chambers mean? What is RST? So you think Bismuth or Hevi-shot would be fine?
How do you like your 1913?
They are asking $1500. Which seems like a decent price from what I've seen online.

The barrels should be stamped on the top stating they are steel. Extending the chambers is done in an effort to shoot 2 3/4 or 3 in shells. RST imanufactures low pressure rounds for classic shotguns like yours.
I prefer my Foxes over my Smiths and Ithacas but that's just me
When you re visit the gun check for any cracking behind the breech extending to the safety sidelocks or in the wrist area. This can lead to a difficult and sometimes expensive repair.
