Bore specs for 16ga?

Post by jimbo&rooster » Tue Dec 10, 2013 1:16 pm

Ok guys, I am looking for the bore specs of a 16ga shotgun as it would relate to "choke". If I remember correctly my buddies grandfather had the bore opened to "cylinder" but, I'd like to have some refrence numbers so that I can stick a Mic in the old girl.

for example

Full:
Mod:
IC:
Cyl:

Thanks
Jim
A limit on the strap is nice, but the kill has nothing to do with tradition.

Choke has to be measured against the bore diameter. The delta between the bore and choke is the effective choke. Shotgun bore sizes are all over the place. There is wide variability among gun makers.

X-2 I have a Velmet 16 O/U. Bore diameter is larger than my Remington mod 31 16 ga. Choke area is much tighter than the bore but it is skeet and skeet. 30 inch pattern at 20 yards.

Standard 16 bore diameter is .662......as opposed to the 12 gauge, little fiddling with bore diameter is done unless there has been a need to refresh the barrel.

Choke is not a measurement...it is a range of measurements resulting in a range of pattern percentages and based upon a difference in barrrel diameters.
Basically, the constrictions are assumed equal in response to the 12 gauge, as opposed to less constriction being required to give the same percentage in a smaller gauge, i.e. the 28 gauge.

If you use the 12 data then you will be close enough for guvmint work....individual patterning is the only way to actually determine a closer range of what any choke constriction delivers.
