Stoeger Condor O/U Shotgun
Saw an advertisement in Sundays paper from "bleep" Sporting goods. They had some basic O/U shotguns at affordable prices.
The Stoeger Condor for $299 is a super deal. I have a Deluxe version, and for me, the fit and feel is excellent . It's a bit nose heavy but easy to get use to. For a field gun, it's an excellent deal.
I got mine with 26" barrels. It's made in S. America and I think either Benelli or Baretta owns Stoeger so the choke tubes are interchangeable.
If you're lookig for a basic O/U, these are worth checking into.

I just seen a used one for sale at cabelas for over $500. I use one of these as my main hunting/brush gun. Pretty nice gun and that is a great deal.

I've owned a few stoegers. My oldest one is still my main duck hunting gun.
However, a couple of months ago I bought a 12/20 combo and had to take it back a couple of weeks later. The stock was splintering where it meets the receiver. Cabelas was very good about taking it back, and the guy told me off the record that they have been having a lot of returns on Stoegers lately.
I probably won't buy another Stoeger. There are much better double guns at a similar price point (Huglu for one. Spartans are getting much better wood now, too.) I just bought an all weather red label for $880 from bass pro. You can find decent deals without compromising quality.

The Stoeger Condor is a gun I've wanted to like, but I've just been unable to find one that I really do like. It seems that they're a bit heavy, and on every one of them that I've seen the recoil pad doesn't properly fit the end of the stock.
Same goes for the Remington/Spartan guns. The fit is good, but they lack good finish. The checkering on those guns just feels rigid and uncomfortable.
I really would like to find a good Stoeger or Remington O/U but, for now, I'm passing on them. If I could take the best qualities of each, I'd have a great gun.
But I'll second the bid for the Turkish guns. I've taken a look at a few CZ's in Gander and have been very impressed. Not shot one though, so take that with a grain of salt. Other than that, Franchi makes a great gun (experience talking) and I don't think you can go wrong with a Browning or Benelli, but you'll pay for the B-Gun name.

I also have a verona and I don't think they get the reconition they deserve for the price a very nice gun. You could buy 2 strogers for the money though.

HINT: Go to your local Gander Mountain and have them order one from a different store if you have to. . .or check out gunbroker as well.
I just picked up a 20 gauge 503 for $759. . .they are being imported now by Savage under the Milano name and going for about double the price. They are made by F.A.I.R. out of Italy, one of the Rizzini family.
I like Stoegers as well. . .I have a 2000 that I won at a PF banquet:

Yeah, but for the price of these O/U's under $500, the quaility and finish is as best you get what you pay for. The best thing is to find one that you like and the fit is good. If you're after fine furniture, you may be better off spending a bit more to get what you are looking for

Take a look at the CZ guns and the DeHann line. They're both Turkish (Huglu), and aren't much more expensive than $500, and the difference in quality, at least in your hands (again, I've not actually shot one) is remarkable.

Dehann has had its problems too with bad firing pins so I think if you are going sub 500 you are going to have to get kinda of lucky to not get some kind of problem...all of the problems you get though can be fixed easily and 99% of time not come back because the company will put better parts in it to fix the gun....

Condor more like Buzzard
I bought a Condor 20 gauge with 26" barrels on it and just traded it for a Remington 1100 12 gauge because I couldnt hit a darn thing with it. Maybe operator error but I shoot all my other shotguns pretty well. When I first bought it new off the shelf I had to have Gander Mountain send it back to Benelli to have it repaired because the second barrel would not fire and then Benelli lost it for about 3 weeks so it took me 2 months and numerous calls to Benelli's manager of customer control to find out it had been sent to Benelli rather than Stoeger. Benelli is actually upstairs in the same building from Stoeger. I finally got the gun back and never could hit anything with it. I have a Remington 1100, a Weatherby 82A and an old Ted Williams model 75 20 gauge all of which I shoot fairly accurately. I don't think I will ever own another Stoeger especially and over and under. This was my first over and under and it sort of soured me on the rest of them.
I picked up a combo gun last year for 349.00. I've loved it for a field gun. I did have some problems including one ruined hunt when the trigger would not reset. That happened maybe 3 times last year and not at all this year. They can be heavy when carrying all day. I mainly use the 20 ga. barrell. The shoulder well and are pretty solid and you don't have to worry about scratching it or getiing it wet. I would buy another.
For anyone who likes Veronas, also check out Lanbers. They are made in Spain - Western quality standards. They are not widely distributed in the US and they ship occassional lots here and they are sold like half of what they go for in the UK and Australia where they are very popular.
There is
Lanber 2097 Sporting 12
Lanber 2087 12 (field model)
Lanber 2067 20 gauge
CDNN Investments had some Lanbers. I bought a few for under $600 each. The 20s are available now and they price in the $750ish range.

Got my condor(12g) for 300 at "bleep", this has been my first new shotgun. Had been using my dads old sears 20g pump. Bought it at the beginning of the yr and has been just about the only gun I have used all yr.
Its taking a little bit of getting used to but I have really liked it.

i bought my condor, base model, for 300 at "bleep". there are different grades of condors with the base model not having a barrel selector. i think the upgraded model is in the 4-500 range.
mine has been good to me with no problems. the only problem i have had was finding chokes in a retail store, mine uses mossberg accu chokes. solution is to think in advance and order them from mossberg for $12. it is heavier than most. the reason i got the condor was because i didn't know if i would like shooting an o/u, so i didn't want to waste much $ on something that might not work out. plus i needed a gun that i wouldn't have to worry about messing up in the NC grouse woods. 2 years and counting with no problems.
i did look into some of the other guns these guys are mentioning, and they are good guns with great reviews. if you are on a strict budget of < 1000 i would go with one of the ones they mentioned, i just feel if i move into the upper hundreds i would just spend a little extra and go for red label.

nate trulock makes chokes for condor's. Not sure if they are condor specific but takes away some of the guessing game.

Ok I spoke praise about the Condor, but after a day at a preserve I had a minor inconvience turn into a mininightmare with this gun. Not sure the cause but here you go...
When I first got the gun and I would break it open to pull the shell from the bottom chamber the rim of the cartridge would not clear the receiver and would hang up. Only occasionally.
Now yesterday in the cold and during a lot of shooting I had to wrestle with the gun more than occasionally to try and get a round into or out of that bottom chamber.
It worked itself out by the end of the day, but is getting worse each occasion it happens.

I hear that these guns are great for hunting and light shooting. I have heard of immense problems at the clays range with high volume shooting.ohiohuntinweim wrote:Ok I spoke praise about the Condor, but after a day at a preserve I had a minor inconvience turn into a mininightmare with this gun. I have one & from what I've read about them, the best thing to do is give them a very good cleaning. Strip everything down and get all the original oil, that it was shipped in, off of it. Then lightly re-oil.
Mine had a problem with only firing one shot, wouldn't reset for the secong shot. A good cleaning helped, so far.....

Re: Stoeger Condor O/U Shotgun
Hi there. I work for a website, www.bidnapper.com that helps you place bids on GunBroker as well as AuctionArms. I came across this post regarding Gunbroker and though I would mention it. It places your bid near the end of the scheduled endtime to give you a competative advantage, similar to eBay. It is currently available for free.

Frankly, could you pleas tell me how this could be an advantage since gunbroker has a 15 minute rule ?
